Poppies – Introduction

April 29, 2008

This is my first “official” outing and blogging with the Kuching Bloggers. I was invited by Irene and myPrivilegebook to do a write-up about this shop together with Alex, Deluxe, Anna, Cherlyn, and Jimmy.

Main door

Opened in March 2008 on 1st floor at The Spring Mall. This is the 2nd Poppies, with the first one opened in Sibu a year ago. The colourful signboard plus the bright and colourful lightings will surely catch your attention from the outside.

Products offered by Poppies ranges from maternity stuff, newborn, to children up to 10 years of age and also not forgetting teenagers and adults too. Why teenagers and adults? *grin* We surely need to buy presents for our friends or family members right?

Olivia

The first Poppies was set up a year ago in Sibu by Olivia. She finds it difficult to buy good quality and branded maternity and baby products in Sibu, especially all under one roof; due to this, she decided to open her very own store to offer a good range of those items. The opening is followed by good response from customers, thus she decided to open the 2nd branch here in The Spring Mall.

Poppies opening hour is from 10AM-10PM, and they run promotions every Wednesday on selected items. Do come to check out the promotions, this is a welcoming news for me because I surely am going to buy lots of baby stuff for my newborn.

View from the main door

The island offers promotion items. Besides that, you can also register as a Poppies member at RM30, which offers 1 point for every ringgit with no expiry date on points earned. There is also no need for annual renewal, which to me, is a very good offer. You can get a RM50 cash voucher for every 1000 points. There is a special rebates on selected milk powders and diapers. Every 10 purchases of selected diapers or 10 selected milk powders will entitle you for a selected offer from Poppies. Check out the membership card, forms and redemption card below.

Playpen

There are 2 facilities here for mothers and little children. First is the playpen, if I am a kid, this is definitely the first place that I will go to when I enter this shop. There are lots of toys to play around in this playpen.

Diaper change and feeding room

Then they have a special room in case the baby need a diaper change, breast feeding or bottle feeding. There are some diapers, vaseline and baby wipes at the diaper changing station for customers to use. A breast feeding platform is also there for mothers to use.

Poppies is also a merchant for www.myprivilegebook.com, so if you are current myPrivilegebook member, there is a pdf file for download, if you are not a member yet, what are you waiting for? =) Get yourself a copy now. I am entering this blog for a contest at http://www.sarawakian.net/2008/03/31/go-enjoy-snap-blog-contest-sarawakian-my-privilege-book-kuching-bloggers/#. Please forgive me because this is my very first official blog =)

That’s all for now, there is 2 more sections that I am writing soon, about maternity and children’s products offered by Poppies.

Please also check out a special album called “A Child’s Perspective”.

Irene at Lake Park

April 22, 2008

Most bloggers will know this sweet and energetic lady as Lovebell or Sweet Surrender. Her name is Irene Law, and I’ve known her from her blog a long long time ago. She is very active in the bloggers community and if you check her blog, you will find that she writes almost all the important events around Kuching.

Last Sunday, I was glad and happy to be able to photograph Irene. The photoshoot was interesting and fun. Her poses are natural and her bright orange top creates a nice contrast with the background. Don’t be fooled by this simple poses, cause I can sense that there are more killer poses inside her awaiting to be unleashed.

Alvin, Shen Han, Allen and Jimmy were part of the photographers on that day. Special thanks to Alvin for organising the shoot.

An Evening with Wendy

April 14, 2008

I’ve been dreaming of night portrait photography for some time already. The reason why I wanted to try it out is due to the challenges in terms of lightings and camera settings.

Wendy is so kind to accept my idea of doing a night shootout along Kuching Waterfront. I invited a few friends to join this interesting shootout session.

5.00PM, and it started as usual. I was rather blank/blur as on what to shoot and how to shoot but the amazing sunset that happens a while later took us by complete suprise. The sky was amazing, stunning colours I should say. We quickly grabbed this opportunity by using the sunset as the background.

Too bad I have to leave early, there are a lot of other ideas that I didn’t manage to tryout.

Here is the 2nd part of Wendy’s album.

Baby Album II

April 12, 2008

Photobook version of Wendy. She is a fun and nice person. Shen Han and I team up for this simple album, with the first part covering Travillion and Padungan in Kuching.

2nd part is coming soon… stay tuned.
