Doris and Craig

February 23, 2009

Craig is from Perth, Australia and Doris is from Kuching, Sarawak. This lovely couple decided to do a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony in Kuching. Craig has no background of Chinese wedding ceremony, and was briefed earlier by Doris’s relative about what is his role on the big day. Craig’s parents were here too for the ceremony, and this is the first time they witnessed a Chinese wedding ceremony.

I’ve photographed many Chinese wedding, but due to many different clans (Foochow, Hakka, Teochew etc. , almost all the ceremony are of different customs. Not all Chinese wedding are the same, which to me is very exciting and I love excitement!

For Doris’s father, customs are not important. He said, MOST important is that the newly weds will be happy and to love each other for ever and ever.

Congratulations to Craig and Doris! I truly enjoyed being your wedding photographer.

Slideshow – Testing Phase

February 17, 2009

I am introducing a new feature in my blog, this slide show is still in testing phase. For a newbie in Internet video like me, it took me lots of effort to learn how to get this slide show to work here.

So after a few days of self-learning and exploration, here it is.

This slide show was done on the same day of the wedding for dinner projection purposes.

Liew Chin and Sze Chung

February 12, 2009

What drew me into wedding photography? It’s pure accident actually, photography has been my hobby for many years. As a kid, I played with my father’s Pentax SLR camera, then I asked for a compact film to play around when I was in primary school. Photography took a halt when I worked as a lecturer at a private college after I graduated. I slowly pick up photography again in the year 2006, that was with a Nikon L1, a compact camera.

Photographing landscape, scenery is my favorite then, until a friend asked me if I would like to cover his wedding. I told him that I don’t have a proper camera for the job. He borrowed me a Fuji S5500 (if I am not mistaken) – a prosumer camera. Not knowing how to use Fuji camera, I brought along my Nikon L1 with me. That’s when I fall in love with wedding photography.

Though not directly involved in the event itself, I feel oblige to capture the best and important moments of the event itself. Somehow it just come naturally in me – and I can feel emotions that runs throughout the wedding. It’s a different kind of feeling, being able to freeze the moments of the couple, and when they view the photos later, it brings back the vivid memories to them.

Sze Chung and Liew Chin (Christina)’s wedding saw me partnering with my friend Shen as usual. Shen starts off to the bride’s house while I went over to Sze Chung’s house. At his house, all the “brothers” are there already but was eagerly waiting for their “job assignment”. Seeing this, Sze Chung brought out his pre-wedding photo album for them to view. That’s when the laughter starts, according to them, the groom’s smile is something like cut and paste throughout the album. You’ll see what I mean later when you view the photos. Both the bride and groom have such a perfect smile, it just makes you smiles back without knowing it. I had fun shooting their wedding. Here are some photos to share with my readers.
